Richard Sisson                                        19th Oct 2020  - Zoom Talk

Acknowledging the importance of continuing tradition and scholarship in the world of Western Art music, the chairman of Luton Music, Richard Sisson, will deliver a lecture on Joseph Haydn’s first visit to Britain. This lecture was first given as part of the Hertfordshire Festival of Music – it was in a small village called Roxford, just three miles outside Hertford, that Haydn stayed in the late summer of 1791. The Esterházy court composer was astonished and delighted to discover on his arrival in England that he was no longer a menial, but was to be treated instead as a celebrity, fêted and admired wherever he went. He was soon a favourite of the royal family – late night piano duets with princesses were to become a way of life!
