Bedfordshire Youth Opera    22nd August 2022       St. Mary’s Church Map

Bedfordshire Youth Opera is one of the finest courses of its kind in the country.  It is unique in the UK, providing one of very few opportunities for young people aged 14 -26 to experience opera – singing, playing or assisting backstage.  BYO has been nurturing talent since 1981 and last year celebrated its 40th anniversary with a spectacular summer gala of operatic highlights.  As a part of this year’s course Luton Music will welcome young members of BYO and distinguished professional alumni in a concert of arias and choruses from the worlds of opera and operetta. Further details will be published online as the 2022 course progresses, but the programme will certainly include concert excerpts from this year’s forthcoming fully staged production of Stephen Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd, to be presented in the week of 29th August.

The programme will include music from the following operas:

Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd & Follies; Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro & Così fan tutte; Gaetano Donizetti's L’elisir d’amore; Giacomo Puccini's Gianni Schicchi; Henry Purcell's Dido and Aeneas; Georges Bizet's Carmen; Englebert Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel; Arthur Sullivan's The Mikado; Claudio Monteverdi's The Coronation of Poppea; Kurt Weill's Down in the Valley
