Fidelio Trio                             30th May 2022       St. Mary’s Church Map

This is the second of our ensembles this season in which the line up of the performers reflects our theme of relationships within families.  Mary and Darragh are a husband and wife team and have been playing in the trio together since 2016 when they were short listed for the prestigious Royal Philharmonic Society Music Awards.

Their programme opens with a rare performance of music by British composer E J Moeran.  Written over several years in the early 1920s it is cast in an overtly romantic idiom. This accessibility is however also inflected with a darker mood, the legacy of the horrors of World War 1 in which the composer fought and was seriously wounded.  The Fidelio Trio have recently released a critically acclaimed recording of the work.

Richard Sisson

‘That Moeran’s music means so much to the players of the Fidelio Trio is clear from the very beginning of this delightful album, the lyrical lines delivered with evident affection, as well as musical excellence.’
