Music of the Late Baroque 25th July 2022 St. Augustine’s Church Map
Luton Music welcomes back Ashley Solomon and Terence Charlston with fond memories of their impeccable Bach recital at The Bear Club in November 2019. On this occasion they are to be joined by Terence’s daughter Helen Charlston, winner of the London Handel Competition for 2018, a member of Les Arts Florissants Young Artist Programme for 2021/22 and a BBC New Generation Artist. These much admired Baroque specialists bring a wealth of authentic skill to this exquisite repertoire.
The programme is a celebration of music from the 17th and 18th Centuries. Looking to establish a further link to our season’s theme of Family Relationships, who better to consider than J S Bach, the scion of a musical dynasty and then father himself to 20 children. Henry Purcell too came from a most musical family, although dying at the relatively young age of 36 he only fathered six children! Barbara Strozzi, a remarkable and ground breaking woman in her time, was a single mother of three… Richard Sisson
‘The clear highlight of the concert was the Epiphany Cantata Ihr Völker hört, which found Helen Charlston on top form, her diction clarion clear, her ability to cope with Telemann’s florid writing never in doubt.’ Seen and Heard International
