Symphonia Academica 13th Feb 2017 at St. Mary's Church, Luton Map
Peter Bussereau’s chamber orchestra returns with an inventive programme of family connections – husband and wife William Alwyn and Doreen Carwithen from the middle of the 20th Century and brother and sister Felix and Fanny Mendelssohn from 100 years before. The concerto by Felix is a particularly remarkable piece – so lyrical and graceful it is the astonishing work of a composer aged 13! The programme opens with a newly unearthed organ concerto by baroque composer Lisabetta de Gambarini which has been specially transcribed for the occasion.
Lisabetta de Gambarini – Organ Concerto
William Alwyn – Concerto Grosso No 2
Doreen Carwithen – String Quartet No 1
Felix Mendelssohn – Violin Concerto in D minor
Fanny Mendelssohn – Lento appassionato
