Sacconi Quartet 8th Oct 2018 at St Augustine’s Church Map
Regular favourites returning to Music on Mondays playing core string quartet repertoire. The early impressionism that informs the Debussy is an admirable foil for the poised classicism of Haydn’s majestic Emperor quartet with its celebrated set of variations on the Deutschlandlied. The great late Schubert quartet is a work totally imbued with narrative tension. Its preoccupation with mortality, translating the Sturm und Drang of the poem by Matthias Claudius, makes it one of the most haunting of all chamber works.
